How to Strike a Balance Between Health Objectives and a Full Schedule

 

Many of us have seen Instagram postings and Tik Tok videos on wellness and self care. What do you mean when you say wellness and self-care? Wellness is the quality of being in excellent health, especially as an active goal, according to Webster’s dictionary. People must define wellbeing on their own terms because it is a personal concept. The various subcategories of wellbeing are numerous.

I’ll be concentrating on mental/emotional, spiritual, physical, and social wellness in this blog. Several good reflection issues are: What exactly do you mean by wellness? What are the areas you want to strengthen? How do you recognize your progress in these areas? How often do you wish to practice a certain wellness habit? I’ll go over how to develop goals for your mental/emotional, spiritual, physical, and social well-being. I’ll share strategies for keeping up these self health objectives because juggling wellness goals with a hectic schedule may be quite difficult.

Optimal mental and emotional health

It might be time to set mental/emotional health objectives if you frequently feel overburdened, pressured, anxious, or sad. There are innovative ways to make daily mental and emotional wellness a priority. This can be relaxing for a moment just before entering your home at the end of the day or taking three deep breaths while having a shower.

The practice of gratitude is another manifestation of mental and emotional health. During your lunch break or while driving to work, you can do this by listing two things for which you are grateful. You might also schedule at least 15 minutes a week for journaling. Some examples include visiting a park or beach, gazing at the sky, or spending time in nature every week. If you can’t get outside into nature, spend five minutes before going to sleep or during your lunch break picturing one of your favorite natural areas.

In addition, setting the intention to begin treatment (if you have the resources) or taking a sick day or vacation day when you need a mental reset are examples of health objectives for mental and emotional wellness.

Spiritual health

Self-care health objectives can be tailored based on your beliefs, desires, or hobbies, as was previously indicated. Consider asking yourself if you feel in touch with your spirit. The following advice may be useful if you’d like to feel more spiritually connected. At least five minutes of daily meditation can be a goal for spiritual wellness. Before or after work, this could entail listening to a brief guided meditation tape.

This could also take the form of daily prayer, reading, or listening to a devotional while driving to work. Five minutes of ancestral meditation may be beneficial, depending on your spiritual views. For instance, as a method to feel spiritually grounded after work, consider considering the bravery and knowledge of your ancestors and/or lighting a candle for them.

Physical health objectives

 

Have you been experiencing low energy or a tightness in your body? The time to consider physical wellness objectives may be now. As an illustration, move with purpose once a week. This can take the form of going for a daily 30-minute walk, exercising, dancing, jogging, jumping rope, or taking a five-minute break from the computer to stretch your body.

Improving your sleep habits is also a part of being physically healthy. It might be beneficial to include a nightly bedtime routine. Here are some pointers for creating a beneficial nighttime routine:

Consume chamomile tea before bed; set a regular bedtime; use a sleep tracking software to monitor your sleep quality; perform nighttime yoga or stretches to prepare your body for sleep.

Improving your nutrition by consuming more fruits, vegetables, and water is another aspect of physical wellness. When was the last time you visited your doctor for a checkup? It may be time for a checkup; it may be beneficial to get your iron or vitamin D levels checked since these factors can affect your level of energy.

Checking these levels every six months can serve as a physical wellness objective. Another sign of physical fitness is routinely taking vitamins and other prescription drugs (s). Setting a daily alarm on your phone to remind you to take your prescription or vitamin may be beneficial (s).

Social health

We naturally need human interactions since we are social beings. Is there a chance to prioritize spending time with loved ones more? It may be more difficult to connect with the people we love and enjoy during a hectic time of year. To maintain equilibrium, though, we require those interpersonal relationships. One instance of social wellbeing is making the first move to contact loved ones. Organizing phone calls with a friend on a weekly or monthly basis, for instance. Try hosting a virtual movie night or dance party once a month if you can’t see a loved one in person. Perhaps you want to increase your social circle or support system but are unsure of how to put this wellness objective first. Aim to commit to attending one meetup group every two weeks or once a month (meetup groups can be based on your interests or hobbies).

The value of accountability while establishing health objectives

Accountability is a crucial tool for maintaining goals, including those relating to self-care. How are you going to hold yourself responsible? Will you set a phone reminder, a note on your refrigerator, ask a loved one to be your accountability partner, or ask your therapist (if you have one) to hold you accountable? You might find it beneficial to gauge and monitor your development. Maintaining motivation also involves tracking your progress. For instance, reviewing your self-care health objectives and concrete activities done on a weekly or biweekly basis, maintaining a journal of your efforts, or using a calendar to track your progress can all be helpful. Make careful to recognize your development and even the little victories!

Gratitude and affirmations

Setting and achieving wellness goals will be harder the busier your calendar is. But it’s during our busiest times that we need balance the most. It might be challenging to intentionally prioritize your own well-being. The goal is to fit some of these physical, social, spiritual, and emotional wellness goals into your hectic schedule. Remind and motivate yourself to keep putting your wellness objectives first. For instance, you may write an affirmation like “I am worthy of a balanced existence” on your mirror, refrigerator, or desk. Even though I know it’s challenging, I’ll keep trying to put my self-care objectives first. Give yourself grace and compassion. It’s okay to get back on the proverbial horse if you fall off without being harsh or unkind to yourself. Remember that compassion does not come without responsibility.
