When we go through life, our opinions alter and so do our thoughts on past and present experiences. Things we have been through previously can suddenly hit us like a ton of bricks and we don’t know where the thoughts came from. We can be watching tv, reading a book and all of a sudden, Anxiety we never had before rears its ugly head affecting us in ways we never thought of, disturbing our daily lives whether gradually or suddenly. We could be sitting in a cafe with friends, completing tasks at school/work and all of a sudden a huge wave of grief takes over us. I am here to help you explore these feelings learning ways to cope.
I am a qualified counsellor and have CBT as my core model of study. I have also had personal experience of mental & physical abuse, health issues, divorce, loss & bereavement, LGBT+ issues and many others from child, young person and adult perspectives therefore I am able to empathise with my clients issues and walk with them on their own path of life.
I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor and work with other counsellors, helping them to explore and enhance their way of working, allowing them the chance to provide a service suitable to their abilities and limitations, helping them recognise that there is a suitable therapist for everyone but not everyone is suitable for one therapist.
Within my practice all sessions are client-led using an integrative approach. This means that the client is always in control of sessions, my clients decide on how and what we focus on in each session. By working together we can discover coping strategies and tools which best suit my clients needs. We are all unique which means our therapy needs to be too.
I have worked within my local hospice, supporting clients who have experienced loss & bereavement, end of life, life limiting illnesses as well as diagnosis of health issues.
I have also working within local schools, working with children and young people who present a variety of issues.
Both of these experiences allowed me the confidence to set up Private Practice, my therapy room is based in County Durham where I provide face to face sessions but also provide remote sessions via either telephone or videocall.
I work with many Employee Assist Programs and other organisations supporting clients such as GPs, Teachers, Emergency Services and local Constabularies supporting frontline staff.
I qualified as a counsellor in 2015 continuing my studies alongside working within the hospice and gained my B.A. (hons) in Counselling in 2018. Although my qualification incorporated integrative humanistic theories the core model of study was CBT, having knowledge and experience of all of these approaches has helped me bring tailor made sessions to my clients. Having the belief that as we are all unique, our therapy needs to be unique to us too.
I am also Northeast Ambassador for Creative Counsellors, working creatively within sessions can help clients explore their issues when the use of words may not always be enough.
I also studied different methods and achievements from numerous organisations including:
Infant Loss
Creative Counsellors Fellowship
Loss & Bereavement
Children & Young Peoples’ Mental Health
