About Me

All relationships from heterosexual to same sex couples have the normal day to day up’s and downs of daily living. Sometimes things can go very wrong and when this happens it’s difficult to talk to each other to find out what’s actually happening. This can be a very scary time with lots of assumptions being made which may result in separation if not dealt with in a professional manner.
Even if separation is inevitable I can help you cope with the impact this can have on you and also those around you.
As a skilled relationship counsellor I am trained to assist and provide you with a caring and supportive environment and to help you find a way through your difficulties either face to face or online.
Even if you are not currently in a relationship and want to explore the possibility of moving forward in life and finding that someone special I can help as well.
Other areas of counselling support I provide include, trauma, bereavement, low confidence/self esteem, sexuality, depression, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, stress, work related issues, career guidance.

My Experience

I am BACP accredited and a member of ACTO and AFT. I use a number of insights and techniques some of which include person centred, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic, transactional analysis and mindfulness.
I have extensive experience and expertise working with post-traumatic stress disorder, complex childhood trauma, sexual abuse, rape, neglect, depression, intimacy/sexual problems, low self-esteem, sexuality, transgender, coming out, fertility, grief, suicide ideation, self-harm, miscarriage, postnatal/antenatal depression, eating disorders, addictions, separation/divorce, anxiety, racism/sectarianism, bipolar disorder and career guidance to name a few.
From time to time I am called upon for my expert advice on a range of issues with BBC Radio Ulster which I enjoy, particularly when speaking to a wider audience. My passion in life is travelling when I can and experiencing different cultures.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach draws from both the Person Centred and Psychodynamic schools of thought in dealing with all issues. I draw on a number of approaches and styles of counselling so as to explore and resolve your problems, and to achieve your ultimately goals and aspirations. These include Person-centred, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles. Should we decide to work together, I will give you my fullest attention, a safe space to express yourself, and my knowledge and experience to give you as much support as I can. I may offer you a different perspective, I may challenge you in a supportive way, and I may suggest various coping strategies so that you can start to make the changes that you want.
