Find a way to live life in the present and recover from trauma: I am a UKCP Integrative Psychotherapist which is mind-body focused. I am certified in trauma work gained in Dublin, Ireland and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) in York. A safe and respectful therapeutic relationship is what I offer. Central to much distress is feelings of shame and not feeling good enough and self-acceptance. I am passionate about accompanying people on their journey to relieve suffering. I am experienced working with long-term conditions and life-threatening illness, students in the academic world life transitions, dementia, personality disorder, relationships, identify, childhood abuse and stress and trauma.
A warm welcome to you as you try and find the right style and approach to therapy that matches your needs. Before starting my psychotherapy career fully in 2012, building community projects was my passion. I developed family support services for families with young children and those affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.
As a therapist, working within the NHS for over 5 years inspired me to develop skills and knowledge to work with a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, work issues, relational conflicts, guilt, parenting issues, personality disorder, sexual and physical abuse.
My natural inclination to engage with young adults led me to establish a Sixth Form Counseling Service and ongoing work with university students. Interfaith and intercultural issues interest me and have led me to India and Turkey, where I have learned together with psychotherapists and faith leaders.
My love of nature and qualification in environmental therapy supports me to draw on nature during online and in-person therapy as well as taking therapy outdoors.
You are at the center of the therapy. I view my therapeutic approaches like “scaffolding” which support us to understand your process and when the approach doesn’t fit, it’s my responsibility to work with you to adjust the approach, I enjoy working together to create your personal shape of therapy. This model is likely to evolve.
I integrate mind-body approaches: gestalt therapy, psychodynamic, nature therapy, trauma therapy, cross-cultural therapy, and somatic experiencing. I use a mindful moment by moment approach to bring awareness to the connections between mind-body sensations-emotions-words-energy and imagery. Often unexpressed and sometimes unconscious needs are revealed via subtle sensations in the body. I combine this experiential approach with bio-psycho-education supporting your understanding of your challenges is empowering.
